I'm Ashfaaq Kazi — a Mauritian-Canadian engineering student and tutor in Montréal. Trilingual in English, French, and Arabic. I'm not teaching first-year math from memory of a degree finished decades ago — I sat these exams recently, and I remember exactly where they hurt.

I had survived high-school math by memorizing worked examples, and Calculus I destroyed that strategy in three weeks. I knew the formulas but couldn't start a problem I hadn't seen before. Ash showed me that my issue wasn't calculus — it was how I read a problem. Every problem set came back within 24 hours with the exact step where my method broke and one priority for the next attempt. I would start writing equations without a plan and lose confidence halfway through. We broke problems into moves I could practise: draw the free-body diagram first, choose the point that kills unknowns, then write equilibrium equations. The problem sets between sessions meant I wasn't starting from zero every week. By the end of the program, I wasn't searching for a perfect solution — I knew how to build a solid one.

I started engineering with weak high-school math and expected months of remedial worksheets before touching anything useful.
